Beginning Web Page Construction With FrontPage 2000

Step-by-step Instructions to get you started

 

 

*            Start > Programs > FrontPage

*            Answer yes or no to the question on the dialog box about your current default html editor (at home or school you may want to decide first if you want FrontPage to be your default)

*            File > New > Web…

*      choose one page web

*      ok

 

*      Format > Shared Borders…

*      Choose all pages

*      Select top and left

*      Ok

*      Format > Theme…

*      Select all pages

*      Choose a theme

*      Select vivid colors

*      Select apply using CSS

*      Ok

*      Warning message appears…click yes

*      Click inside the top shared border area

*      Insert > Page Banner…

*      Choose picture

*      Change text if you wish

*      Ok

*      If banner does not appear on page, click on the Navigation button in the left View pane, double-click on the Home Page block and your main page should come back up with the banner showing

*      Click inside the left shared border area

*      Insert > Navigation Bar…

*      Under additional pages choose Home Page

*      At bottom choose vertical and buttons

*      Ok

*      Buttons will not start to appear until new pages are added and linked off of Home Page

*      Click on Navigation button in the View pane at left

*      Right click on the Home Page block and choose New Page – a new page will appear connected to the home page (indicating a link) and be named New Page 1 (to change the name of the page, right click on its block, choose Rename – type in new name – hit enter)

*      At this point you should create a folder on the desktop, hard drive, floppy disk, or where ever you plan to save your “web” (give the folder a name – example:  jimmys web)

*      File > Publish Web…

*      Browse

*      Choose location to save web (find the folder you created in step 14)

*      Open

*      You will be taken back to the Publish Web dialog box

*      Click Publish

*      You will get a warning message asking if you want to convert the folder to a web – click Yes

*      When it has finished publishing, you will get a dialog box that asks if you want to view the published site – click the Done button

 

*      Double click on the Home Page block (while in the Navigation view) to go back to the Home Page

*      Begin adding content to the page

*      Create new pages by right clicking on the page (in Navigation view) block you want to link off of and choose new page

*      To view web page(s)

*      Open web folder on storage medium (hard drive, desk top, floppy, etc)

*      Double-click on the file icon called index.htm

*      Browser will open and load the page

*      Will act as if you are on the internet (you are not…you are surfing your miniature web on your floppy)

 

*      To edit or add pages to “web” –

*      Open FrontPage

*      File > Open Web…

*      Find your web folder (on desktop, floppy, hard drive, etc)

*      Click open

*      FrontPage will pull in all of the pages and resources stored in the “web” folder

*      Make sure you republish when you make changes or additions to the web
